First up, list the gear you have…
Ok here goes…
Nikon D300 w grip
Bronica sq-a with a waist level finder and a 80mm f2.8 on the front
Nikon 10.5 f2.8 fisheye
Nikon 50mm f1.4
Sigma 30mm f1.4
Sigma 50-150mm f2.8
Sigma 10-20mm f4 ( pops in and out depending what im doing)
3 x Sunpak 383s
1 x Sunpak 622
4 x Pocket Wizards
2 x 120 film back
1 x Polaroid back
2 x busted up Impact light stands
1 x Silk tripod
That’s the main stuff, plus cables, film, mounts and other assorted bits and bobs.
Rechargeable batteries or just replace them?
I’ve got a battery pack for the 622, but I just buy batteries for the 383s and PWs. 9 bucks for 30 batteries at Bunnings, can’t go wrong!
What goes missing the most from your bag?
Probably the one thing in my life im not constantly losing shit from but usually batteries and shoes for flashes tend to go walking abit
What lens do you use the most and why?
At the moment my 50mm is on my camera more than anything else. It’s just awesome. Always the way, it’s the cheapest lens in my bag and it is the one I use the most haha
What program do you use for editing the photos after you have uploaded them?
OG Photoshop CS seems to do well at fixing all my photos. I’ll upgrade sooner or later..
Is your gear insured?
It wasn’t for a long time but my sisters nagging finally paid dividends and I got it all insured recently. Also after a expensive non-insured car crash I needed no more convincing on insurance. You are crazy if you don’t!
Black and white or colour?
Mostly colour on the digi but film can’t be beat for B&W. I do have a lot of time for B&W though if the occasion calls for it.
How many flashes have you broken?
Surprisingly only 2 I think. Got one of the biggest electric shocks of my life to fix one of them too. Zing!
Favourite websites and or mags out there that motivate you to go out and shoot photos?
Hard to narrow it down with so many around at the moment but definitely Doleckis’ site www.twicebmx.com and Perringers’ http://www.walterpieringer.com for BMX, those guys are incredible. This skate shooter called French fred is badass too http://www.frenchfred.com. Sandy Carsons’ stuff is so good too. Has so many good projects http://www.sandycarson.com. For Print Dig, Skate mags, National Geographic. Everything really, motivation is everywhere you see something new.
Best advice you can give someone starting out…
Man im far from being a pro so it is kinda weird me giving other people advice, but if I had to give any I’d say never never get complacent and always be open to new ideas and other peoples input. You learn everyday whether on purpose or by accident. Probably the best piece of photo advice I read, I forget where it’s from but it said ‘the best photo is the one happening behind you’. Always keep your eyes open!
