How long have you had the store for?
I’m just a baby, I’ve been a bricks and mortar store for just over 3 months.
What was the reason for starting it?
Because I’m a jerk! Really, who starts a retail store when the industry is failing?
But…
I have a passion for all types of bikes, from the 12” monsters that your little bro/sis shred to the Dutch style old rigs that your grand parents ride, I love em all, even the stretchy pants of road bikes! My main passion is obviously BMX and that flows through the store style and feel. So basically I started the shop to make the most out of this passion. I started Riding Way because I had a dream of a place for the youth to come hang out, get looked after on quality products at competitive prices and feel safe to spend their parents hard earned cash.

How many people work there?
It’s me and Liam Kruimel in the shop. Liam’s great, he offered to help out so I pay him top dollar and he removes all the dust from all the bikes. I can’t talk him up enough! All the rest of it is on me, my wife does NOTHING. That’s not true, she runs around for me, picking stock up, bringing it down to the shop, taking parcels to the courier depot, my banking, and all while raising our little turd, I mean, Princess.
What is the most satisfying thing about running the shop?
I love retail so there’s so many things I love. Seeing someone walk out the door grinning from ear to ear is a daily bonus! Also I love when people come hang out for an hour or two (or 6 Patto) talking shit, helping out, dreaming about Profile Elite Hub Sets, and enjoying an ice cold CocaCola.
Do you do mailorder?

What has been the most random thing that has happened in the store?
Umm, I do all types of bikes as I said and I had a guy on his electric bike come in for some service. Good lo’ Aussie bloke. A real character. He was so stoked on my service he brought in some home grown chicken eggs for me to cook up. Stoked.
The most common question asked by customers is?
“How much is this?” as the kid points to the only bike in the store without a price tag. (should really get a tag for that bike)
Does the shop have a team?
Hells yes sir! Killa crew that not only ride but help out with so much with the store too. We got, Adam Stone, Dylan Pell, Jack Kelly, Mugzy, Alex Mamo, Puke Larker, and Liam Kruimel.
How many times a day do you get asked for scooter wheels?
Not often enough. I love scooters. But seriously, not that much really. Which is good, because I’m running out of room to hang those kids up out the back.
Do you offer work experience for school kids?
Definitely getting there. Working with a local community group to further extend the opportunities that I can offer to the youth of the area.
