Adelaide filmer Doug Underhill has been filming and editing web videos / DVD’s for a few years now so we hit him up with a bunch of questions about filming them…
What was the first web video you made?
The Dwayne Germain Edit…
Best thing about making web videos compared to a DVD?
There’s usually not that much pressure & it takes a lot shorter time to make.
Worst thing about making web videos compared to a DVD?
I’m sure it willjust get lost somewhere on the net haha atleast with the DVD its always gonna be in your DVD pile at home.
With a countless amount of web videos coming out each day from all over the world, Do you stress much about finding a song that hasn’t been used before?
Yeah definitely, I hate using a song then finding out It’s already been used but its the net there’s always gonna be a song already used somewhere.
Do you prefer Vimeo or Youtube and why?
Vimeo seems more professional and a more cleaner, smoother look than Youtube.
Who out there motivates you to create web videos?
Watching other amazing web edits and the rider who asks me to film for their edit. I feel if they ask me they must think it will work out good for the both of us so therfore I get stoked and motivated to get it done for them and it’s always a good feeling when its finished.
Do you feel some people rush web videos? Do you believe you should take as much time working on an edit as you would as if it was for a DVD section?
Depends how much effort the rider puts work in for it. It could take a day or a month just depends what they have in mind for it.
What has been your favourite web video you have created and why?
Probably the Ryan Knight edit just cause it was filmed in 1 day and it was really relaxing and enjoyable.
He’s a super nice guy there was no pressure what so ever.
Any suggestions for people starting to get into making web videos?
Just get a decent quality video camera & try watch lots of edits & dvds just to get different ideas & it should turn out good.
Are you working on any edits at the moment?
Yeah two at the moment, just finding time in between filming for my DVD aswell but they should be done soon.
