Western Australian rider/filmer Calvin Kosovich has been filming and editing web videos for a few years now so we hit him up with a bunch of questions about filming them…
What was the first web video you made?
I believe it was a little promo for a DVD that never happened, good fun. Filmed on an old canon powershot.
Best thing about making web videos compared to a DVD?
No stress, its a relaxing task and there never quite as long to make as a full length vid. You can experiment with alot of ideas.
Worst thing about making web videos compared to a DVD?
Seen then gone the next day, it’s always nice to have something to show for, DVD’s are the finish of alot of hard work.
With a countless amount of web videos coming out each day from all over the world, Do you stress much about finding a song that hasn’t been used before?
Yeah it’s nice to try and be different, I just wait for a song to come to me then I’ll edit in my head for a few days and go from there.
Do you prefer Vimeo or Youtube and why?
Vimeo is a respected community, no junk or spam and good video quality.
Who out there motivates you to create web videos?
Friends and being out riding, watching epic Navaz footage too.
Do you feel some people rush web videos? Do you believe you should take as much time working on an edit as you would as if it was for a DVD section?
If you have the quality in the riding itself you have to put the quality back into the filming and editing process.
What has been your favourite web video you have created and why?
This edit is of Tim Cawthorne, it was to get an idea of how the DVD we’re working on was being filmed. I ended up favoring this one.
Any suggestions for people starting to get into making web videos?
Get to know your camera, film and edit as much as you can. Practice is the key.
Are you working on any edits at the moment? No not right now I’ve been working alot on our DVD, just filming and structuring the video. I’m sure there be one around the corner.
