How long have you had the store for?
Since August 07, so nearly 4 years, holy crap that’s has flown by pretty fast.
What was the reason for starting it?
For one there was nowhere anywhere near the centre of town that stocked anything remotely close to being a quality BMX product. Secondly it is something I had always dreamt of doing, when we were kids I was the one who was keen to fix everyone’s bikes for them. That obsession eventually led me to working the tools in regular family style bike shops, which was fun, and I learnt so many useful skills in the workshop, but there is only a certain number of full services on roadbikes a BMXer can take before it sends him insane, so staring a BMX shop was the solution.
How many people work there?
At the moment it is myself and Dave C on full time, but we occasionally get help from John Young, Paul Chamberlain and Will Herman when one of us needs time off.
What is the most satisfying thing about running the shop?
One of the best things is selling some rad super excited little kid his first proper BMX bike, then watching him progress into a real proper shredder over the course of a couple of years.
Do you do mailorder?
Yes we do. www.hellonwheels.com.au
What has been the most random thing that has happened in the store?
Possibly the guy who asked if it was cool if his dog came into the shop with him, after replying with “ yeah that’s fine as long as he doesn’t take a wiz inside”, moments later the dog offloaded a larger than normal piss! After handing the man a mop and bucket, he flat out refused to clean up the mess as it was not his dog, he was merely walking it for a friend!WOW some people are just amazing.
The most common question asked by customers is?
How much is that sick bike in the window bra?
Does the shop have a team?
Yes ,but our team page on the website is still nowhere near completion. The team is Dave C, Alex Liiv, Xave Koen,Jamie Mauri, Dan Baker,Trent Rowsell, John Young as well as a long list of others we hook up with sweet deals.
How many times a day do you get asked for scooter wheels?
Too many as far as Im concerned. Unfortunately it is at least a couple of times a day.
Do you offer work experience for school kids?
Yes, so far we have done two lots of work experience and we have another couple coming up soon.
Where can we find out more about the shop?
We have a pretty active website with a good blog. The online store is there also. We have also got a Facebook page which is pretty active also.
