THE CLVLND DVD

DVD’s are few and far between these days, let alone a crew DVD. So when we heard Tim Storey had one in the works featuring the crew he rides with we had to get the low down on the whole project.

To celebrate we have a few copies to giveaway with the next couple online store orders for anyone interested.

What motivated you to make the dvd?

I have always been interested in filming and making videos. I had an idea for it about 3 years ago and started filming for a mixtape of all my friends. Everyone kept filming and when we had quite a lot of footage I thought we might as well just keep going and do a dvd. The editing process was all brand new to me so that was also motivated me to do it because I really wanted to start learning about it all. But seeing a dvd and knowing how much work has gone into it was a massive motivation. I wanted to have something that I could hold in my hand and know how much work it took to reach the end result.

Who else was involved in the making of it? Be it riding, filming, behind the scenes etc..

The dvd has a sections from Dylan Steinhardt, Chris Storey, Pat Niall, and myself. There is a split section with Mason Ainsworth, Joel Lenton and Liam Rossenau and then there is a mix section with a bunch of local dudes from Cleveland.  Aside from that there hasn’t really been anyone else. I have been bugging lots of people asking questions about editing and producing a dvd but it’s mainly just been us.

Was it all filming in Queensland? or did you guys take some trips?

It’s predominantly in Queensland. At first I wanted to just film a mixtape at the skatepark and do it like that. But as we got more and more I realised that that wasn’t feasible. So we went all over Brisbane, Northside, Goldcoast, Redland City and we took a trip to Sydney ealier this year so that was fun.

Any bad injuries during the filming for it?

I think Dylan has done something to his ankles. They don’t seem to really heal, but we got off pretty good. Lots of little bumps and bruisers but nothing to bad.

Do all the guys live in the Cleveland area?

Yeah we are all from the Redlands but ride Cleveland skate park most afternoons.

Hardest clip to film?

That’s a pretty difficult question. Personally for me maybe foot manual whip. It took about 100 tries and it was super hot and I destroyed my shin that day. I think all the boys got most of their stuff pretty fast and didn’t seem to struggle to much. Dylan put in a lot of work for his section and I think It shows.

"At the same spot a lady was walking up the stairs dropped some weed and Dylan gave it back to her. She look liked he had given her a million dollars"

Any crazy/funny stories from being out filming?

One that springs to mind is when we were in Sydney and we were at the suicide rails. Dylan and myself got a clip on it and then my brother wanted to get one as he was eyeing it up a police car came past so as we tried to reason with them they told us it was fine and they wanted him to do it. Which he did. Once he got it they left. At the same spot a lady was walking up the stairs dropped some weed and Dylan gave it back to her. She look liked he had given her a million dollars and was very happy as “it was going to help her sleep”

How can people get a copy of the dvd?

I’ll be sending copies around the country and they will be free so most good bike shops will get some

What camera gear did you guys use for the project?

A Canon 60D, 600D and a 550D with a bunch of different lenses and a rode mic, another little cheap mic from ebay and a glide cam for most of it.

Anything you would change for next time or have learnt for the next time round?

Get a working copy of encore so you don’t have to use some shitty dvd aurthoring software. Dedicate time to editing when you don’t have uni work to do. Be better at editing so the dvd looks better haha.

Who’s section are you most stoked on and who do you think put in the most work for their section?

Like I said before Dylans section to me really shines through and shows the work he put in. He hit the ground a lot of times but it didn’t slow him down to much. And the fact that he isn’t afraid to jump on second stage alloy rails says a lot to me. My brothers (Chris Storey) is also really cool. He is really busy with uni and doesn’t get much time to ride so it always amazes me that he can just send stuff when he does come riding.

For anyone looking to film a full length dvd, what advice would you offer them?

Try and have as much fun as you can while doing it. Get a good solid crew that won’t quit riding because going side ways in a car is more important. And learn to edit before starting because those programs are so difficult (to me anyway).
