LTU – Todd Rutherford

Interview and photos thanks to Gorak.

There’s something in the water out in Monbulk. I don’t know what it is. I don’t know where it comes from. But what I think I know is that whatever it is, it creates great people who can ride BMX bikes with style and flow. Todd Rutherford has been drinking that good water and plenty of it! One of the most down to earth, friendly people I’ve had the pleasure to ride and travel with and at only 16 years old has plenty of radness in front of him. You should go get a crew together and go sample the good water out at Monbulk and hopefully run into Todd. He’ll show you a thing or two about style!

How old are you? 16 years old
Where do you live? Monbulk, Victoria
What’s your local riding spot? Monbulk skatepark
You’re off at the moment, forced onto the injury bench, what happened? I tried to opposite 360 the new spox at rampfest half way through the spin I knew I was going to loop out so I bailed off my bike and landed at the flat bottom of the ramp on my right ankle and it gave way and broke.
How long to go till you’re back riding? Praying no more than 5 weeks, really keen to ride.
How have you been keeping sane and occupied? I’ve been doing some drawing and watching heaps and heaps of BMX edits and videos but each day I’m more and more eager to ride.
Have you been plotting and planning what you’re going to do when you return to the bike? Yeah, I’m really looking forward just to be able to start peddling my bike again, it’s been a long recovery and each day I’m always thinking of where I want to ride or I can’t wait to ride with my friends again.
What motivates you most to ride BMX? To always progress myself as a rider and learn new tricks. not always riding the same thing I love all aspects of BMX whether it be skateparks, dirt jumps or even street I love it all and I’m always really keen to ride.
Who do you look up to/ who inspires you? I’ve always looked up to my friend Kai moody, I love his riding style and he’s helped me a lot and I’m very greatful. Dennis Enarson and Jason Watts also inspire me just for there ability to ride anything and it always looks sick!
Anything else you want to say? Would just like to thank my family and anyone who has supported me! Anyone thats rode with me and helped me with my riding.  Thanks to Gorak at Ridingway for always being a rad human and keeping my bike dialled.
