VIDEO // JACK GRUBER

Backbone’s Jack Gruber has been floating around Melbourne the past few years and stacked some great clips along the way with Anthony Bowler. It was a good watch seeing how someone from out of town approaches riding spots we’ve been going to for years, Gruber handled it as you would expect…

VIDEO // BOUND FOR NOWHERE

Tama Lewis reposted this video he put together to share some good memories he made with Ryan Saville a few years back. It’s filled with good times and great riding from Tama, Ryan, Dylan Lewis, Adam Hough, Jett Man and more, but honestly it’s an opportunity to understand why Chowgy was such a big part of our community.

Rest In Peace Ryan “Chowgy” Saville

When I heard about the passing of Ryan Saville, or Chowgy as he was better known, it floored me. I hadn’t seen him in months since moving to Brisbane, but I knew that next time I went back to Sydney I’d see him at a bowl somewhere with that signature smile and it is absolutely heart wrenching to know that won’t happen.

Chowgy could do all the tricks, go as high as anyone and had all the style in the world, but being the anomaly he was, this came with zero ego. Theres a good chance he’d do the move of the session, but an equally high chance that you’d miss it because he did it without any pomp or fanfare. An unassuming, kind and softly spoken person who improved any session he was involved in, its easy to see why he left such an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

The Sydney, and indeed Australian BMX scene has another void that can’t be filled, but I hope that wherever you are Chowgy, the JD and coke flows freely, the bowl is always dry and the trails are always running… Butterlegs.
