Photo Feature – Kane Naaraat

All photos shot by Kane Naaraat, check out more of his work here.

Kane Naaraat 39 years old, I’ve been shooting Bmx since about 2008, when I got my first digital camera, I basically got into shooting as a way to stay in the bike scene when I was injured and needed a cheaper option than getting film developed all the time. I’m pretty much self taught with a lot of help from good buddy of mine Dan Peters, who taught me a lot about lighting and what looks good. Im constantly checking out other photographers work and trying to copy and improve on what they do.

There are so many good shots floating around the internet these days I find it great for inspiration. I’d say my style would be the Over edited look, but I just try and just be a bit different to the norm. Although most of my shots are artificially lit, I do prefer natural light. It’s just really hard to get bmxers to ride at the time when its banging. They are usually in bed or Drunk.

A favourite of mine. Well its near impossible to get a bad shot of Ryan Lloyd.  I love it when an unplanned shoot ends up with an epic sky to shoot against. Paramount trails flick out .

There is a lot going on in this shot which is what I try and achieve in my shots. Colin Nevin Big bar rooter.

So many rad dudes in Bmx. A drunk Collin Nevin with a blow up Croc at the Halloween Jam at Chief st. He also was boosting the wall with this strapped to his bike too which was gold.

Brad Wright’s ramps in his yard were always going to be rad to shoot with all those colours. A dialled table from Brad and a sunset too sealed the deal.

This shot of Brad Wright took a lot of messing with my lights to get what I was after here. Luckily Brad can do these on point every time. City Dirt Adelaide makes a good backdrop too.

I just love this shot of Collin Nevin boosting the wall at Chief st. I think the cleanness of it draws me to this one.

A lucky shot here of Ryan Lloyd. I was sitting on the couch with a beer in one hand and camera in the other and just shot it from the hip. Always a nice surprise when you upload them and see one of these.

I love this shot from one of Guss’s jams. This is what bmx is all about. Bikes, good buddies and good times. I can look at this shot for ages there is so much going on.

One of the few times i have actually set out with a rider to do a specific  shoot. I had the lighting and framing all in my head from thinking about this the night before. With Ryan Lloyd, possibly one of the worlds best riders, I knew i was on a winner before i even got there. It was a nice day with a pretty uninteresting sky until all of the sudden a storm front came through really fast. We snapped of a couple of bangers really quick and got the hell out of there just as the lightning started getting crazy. I had never seen such a crazy sky that was that was so blue one way to bright red the other. wild. Another all time fav of mine.

Another shot from one of the Jams at Chief st. Here French Bas was travelling through on a world tour and stopped in to shred this place to pieces. I love seeing riders adapt to a new spot. I was stoked on my composition of this one and the lighting is pretty nice too.

Collin Nevin is another one of my Favs. He will boost the crap out of anything. I really like shooting natural lit stuff, especially late evening. I love the lens flare in this one. The tuck is pretty rad too.

I love shooting Westbeach park. I couldn’t leave out a taybo from Ryan Knight when talking about this place. He has one of the best around thats for sure, and shreds the hell out of this place.

West Beach again. Not many guys can shred this place like Collin Nevin either. Banger euro too.

One of my favourite riders Angus Samson. Here goofing off after a build and riding session at Paramount jumps.
