VIMEO FEATURE // JACK BIRTLES

Jack has produced some real solid web videos over the last couple of years along with a good vibed DVD. We hit him up next for our Vimeo feature, hit the jump for a good read and make sure you check out his Vimeo page here.

Out of all your videos on the vimeo page what are your 3 favourites and tell us why?
Raphael Jeroma-Williams
Filming with Raph for this RideonBMX/Fallen Footwear edit was unreal! Although there was a reasonable amount of pressure on us, it never once felt like there was. We just hung out, rode and partied. Somehow we ended up with an edit that reflects Raph as a person not just a rider! So im psyched on It! Filming the ender was without out a doubt the highlight though. So much thought and planning had gone into getting Raph up on too that bridge and there was so many uncontrollable variables, but it was a touch of spontaneity after a big night that ended in the perfect day. With some great shots to top off the edit! Couldn’t have gone better, Raph kills it!

Fear of missing out
I love my life, I love my friends, I love travelling and I love my bike. I never planned to make this edit It just fell together and im pretty happy with how it turned out. Life has so much to offer, don’t miss out! Some might even say YOLO hahaha

Tom Stretton
Anyone that knows Tom or has ridden with him, knows that he is an extremely genuine and A lovely guy, filming this edit with Tom was so much fun and I think it shows. Tom’s riding is completely unique to him, He is as diverse as they come, yet everything he does seems to have some sort of added spice, which is a pleasure to film!

Hardest web video to film/edit?
Nothing on my Vimeo account was really difficult to film, most projects I work on there are purely for fun, I do a variety of work outside of BMX that isn’t always as fun, however still rewarding nonetheless. If im outside filming someone or something that’s interesting or attractive to the lense I am pretty content! I suppose filming this one of keelan was a tad hard because it was a constant battle keeping him in the frame haha.

Most enjoyable web video to film/edit?
NZ – The south Island RoadTrip
This trip couldn’t have be better and somehow I ended up with an edit that reflects the trip quite well, which im pretty proud of… I rarely rewatch my edits much after their completion but this is an exception! Road trips are the best!

Anything about vimeo you wish was different? Any improvement you would like to see?
Not particularly, I’m always in awe of vimeo and their pleasant interface and user- friendly concepts, so I don’t feel the need to pick apart something that is so beneficial to me, Vimeo is awesome!

Do you prefer web edits or DVD with full sections?
They both have their place in the industry. Web edits are great if you want a quick hit of BMX but you don’t have half hour to an hour to sit down and zone yourself into a DVD. I definitely prefer full DVD sections but I understand that this is becoming a think of the past, kids don’t buy DVD’s anymore and they are next generation!

What’s your opinion on companies dropping full length video online now ?
I think its extremely smart, that’s the way things are going, its sad but DVD,s are slowly on there way out, Which is dam shame but we have to move forward as a BMX community or we will be left behind, its just a natural progression and I think the topic is a tad over debated!

Any web videos dropping soon?
I have quite a few edits that are close to completion. I am always filming with my close mates, so look for edits soon from Daniel Watson, Stephen Griffiths and Thomas Dunn, who are all amazing! Jason Watts and I have also just finished filming for a Forgotten BMX edit so watch out for that in the next week or so, it will definitely turn heads. I have also started working on a couple of edits with the likes of Chris Courtenay, Garreth Hadfield and Steve Lyons that are still in the planning stages so look out for those in the near future!
